HUMPHREY, Neb. -- Humphrey Fire and Rescue held an open house for their new fire station that just opened on Sunday.

The community gathered with the fire department for a dedication ceremony followed by a cookout for those who attended.

The new building is 150 feet by 80 feet and takes up 12,000 square feet.

The station also added two additional doors which now totals six. The Rural Fire Board funded the construction of the project through its rural taxing district.

"Our fire station was, we just outgrew it," said board member Jeff Bender. "The equipment is larger now and the original station was built in the early 70s. We needed more room and we looked at a lot of options. We looked at remodeling, we looked at tearing down and building on the same site and when the city had this property available to us, we decided that this would be a good option and it gave us room for a nice facility."

The new fire station is now fully operational.
