CHADRON, Neb. --- With guards Jalen Patterson and Bryce Latimer combining for 38 points and 12 assists, the Chadron State College men's basketball rolled to a 79-51 victory over Western Colorado in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game played in Chadron on Saturday night.
             
The Eagles led by just 34-29 at halftime, but shot 59.4% (19-32) from the field in the second half while outscoring the Mountaineers 45-22. Chadron State also outrebounded the visitors 33-23 for the game.  
             
Patterson was nine of 12 from the field, including three of five from 3-point range, and made his only free throw for 22 points.  The 6-foot-1 juniors also handed out five assists and was the game's leading rebounder with seven.  
             
Latimer made half of his 14 field goal shots and both of his free throws for 16 points and was credited with seven assists.  The 5-10 senior, who entered the game averaging nearly 24 points, scored 12 of his points Saturday night in the second half. 
             
Dalton Peterson added 10 points and Martin Poznanovic had eight to help the Eagles improve their season record to 4-4 and improve their conference record to 2-1.
             
Western Colorado's only double-figure scorer was Avery Remboa with 13 points. Spencer Wright was second on the Mountaineers' scoring list with 8 points.  The Mountaineers, who had 20 turnovers, compared the CSC's nine, are now 3-5 in the overall and 1-2 in the RMAC.
             
The Chadron State women also rallied late to down the Western women 55-49 in the first game of the double-header Saturday afternoon.  Both teams will be at home again Tuesday night to meet Colorado Christian beginning at 5:30.

Eagle defense stumps Mountaineers

CHADRON, Neb. --The Chadron State College women's basketball team held Western Colorado to 33.9 percent from the field enroot to winning 55-49 Saturday afternoon in the Chicoine Center.
 
The victory improves CSC to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in RMAC play and also marks the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory for Head Coach Travis Brewster.
 
Western Colorado scored their 12th point with 3:20 left in the first quarter and led 12-7 at the conclusion of the period. The Chadron State defense held the Mountaineers scoreless for nine minutes and 37 seconds after that basket and led 23-18 at halftime.
 
The visitors outscored CSC 21-13 in the third period and led 39-35 with ten minutes remaining. The two teams traded three-point baskets and swapped the lead five times before the Mountaineers led 49-48 with two minutes remaining.
 
A timeout was called by first year Head Coach Brewster with 1:56 on the clock. The Eagles ran a new offensive set out of the timeout that led to a wide-open layup for Ashayla Powers, assisted by Awoti Akoi, that gave CSC a 50-49 lead.
 
Powers, a junior from Longmont, Colorado, scored the next three points for the Eagles and Megan Counts made two free throws with four seconds left, giving CSC the 55-49 victory. Powers scored seven consecutive points in the final three minutes of the game.
 
Chadron State made 22 of its 49 (44.9%) field goal attempts in the victory and were five of 15 from three. The Mountaineers made eight of their 28 attempts from three.
 
The Mountaineers had a total of 12 fouls committed while Chadron State had nine. The Eagles made six of their nine attempts from the charity stripe while Western Colorado were a perfect three for three.
 
The Eagles were outrebounded 35 to 31.
 
Western Colorado committed 14 turnovers that turned into 14 Chadron State points. CSC also committed 14 turnovers but only allowed nine Mountaineer points.  
 
Powers had a team high 17 points in the victory. Rachel Cockman had a game high 18 points for the Mountaineers.
 
Liberty Line, a redshirt sophomore from Parker, Colorado, had a team high six rebounds for CSC. Kyra Tanabe, a redshirt sophomore from Hawai'I Kai, Hawaii had a game high five assists.
 
Chadron State plays at home on Tuesday when they host Colorado Christian at 5:30 p.m.

Women’s Wrestling goes 2-0

CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College women's wrestling team defeated Minot State and Adams State Sunday in the Chicoine Center, 29-19 and 41-8, respectively.
 
Brianna Vollendroff, Ana Rojas Zamora, Annika Lee, and Emma Meadows all went 2-0. Mana Chanthasone at 101 pounds and Kamila Montenegro at 190 also were each 2-0 but due to forfeits by their opponents.
 
Vollendroff, a sophomore from Oroville, California, defeated her opponent from Minot State with a 13-2 tech fall. She won her second match of the day against Adams State by way of fall in 4:37 at 109 pounds. Her tech fall occurred only 2:28 into the match.
 
At 123 pounds, Rojas Zamora's victories came by way of two pins. The sophomore from Sweeny, Texas pinned her opponent from Minot State in 2:41 and was victorious against Adams State in 3:28.
 
Shania Wear went 1-1 for the Eagles at 130 pounds. Wear, a sophomore from Gothenburg, Nebraska used two four-point throws on her way to earning a 16-6 tech fall against the Grizzlies.
 
Lee, a freshman from Olympia, Washington won with two first period tech falls. Against Minot State, she won the 136-pound match 11-0 in 2:52 and was victorious with a 10-0 tech fall in 2:48 against Adams State.
 
At 143 pounds, Karstin Hollen finished 1-1. Hollen, a junior from Mesa, Arizona's victory was a second round 12-2 tech fall against Adams.
 
Meadows, a freshman from Roseville, California, won by forfeit in her first dual of the day and was victorious with a 14-4 tech fall in her second dual.
 
For the first time this season, Chadron State had a wrestler fill the 170-pound weight class. Hattie Baldwin, a freshman from Pierre, South Dakota, went 1-1 after being pinned by Minot State and winning by forfeit against Adams State.
 
The Eagles are in Las Vegas, Nevada a week from today for the Desert Duals
