Former State Sen. Ernie Chambers: “No one is going to tell me what to do…”

Love him or hate him, that was former State Sen. Ernie Chambers in 2020, shortly before he was term limited out of the Legislature for the second time.

Now, at the age of 86, he says he’s thinking about running again this year, but at the same time telling the Nebraska Examiner that’s “different than planning or intending to.”

If that sounds familiar it is.

He was thinking about running for the Douglas County Board here in North Omaha a few years ago but didn’t…and a separate write-in campaign fell well short.

By the way if Chambers does run for his old North Omaha seat, he’ll be taking on incumbent Senator Terrell McKinney, who Chambers backed four years ago.

The deadline for Chambers to decide is this Friday.

For now…there’s this.

Chambers: “I might do my Dracula routine. I told you all that if the white people would have left me alone, I probably would have died 10 or 12 years ago. But because they kept messing with me I continue to live to spite them.”
