LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln childcare provider was arrested after a 4-month-old boy suffered serious injuries in her care, according to Lincoln Police.

Tiffany Frye, 46, was taken into custody after police responded to a child abuse report at Bryan East on Sept. 19.

The child’s mother had dropped him off at Frye’s home the day before for childcare. According to an arrest affidavit, she said her baby was happy and using both legs normally. Later that day, when the child’s father picked him up, he reported the baby was screaming, which was unusual.

The parents told police they were unable to calm him and noticed a change in his behavior. His mother observed one of his legs was stiff and suspected it was broken, the affidavit said.

After notifying Frye that they were taking the baby to the doctor, Frye told the mother the child had earlier gotten his left leg caught in the harness of a baby glider, according to the affidavit.

Investigators learned Frye had been frustrated due to lack of sleep and the baby being fussy since his arrival. She placed him in the glider and became upset when he wouldn’t straighten his legs. Frye admitted to pulling his legs too hard, hearing a pop, and failing to report the incident to the parents, police said.

According to court documents, the baby continued crying throughout the day, only calming when his leg was positioned a certain way. Frye reportedly became further frustrated and purposely placed him down too hard on a changing table, without supporting his head, which police said led to head trauma.

Doctors later confirmed the baby had suffered a spiral fracture of his left femur and a subdural hematoma consistent with abusive head trauma. He was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha due to the severity of his injuries.

Frye has been charged with intentional child abuse resulting in serious injury. Her bond was set at 10% of $75,000, and a hearing is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 10 a.m.
