Severe storms possible across Nebraska panhandle Sunday afternoon and evening

SIDNEY, Neb. — Residents across the Nebraska Panhandle and southeastern Wyoming are advised to stay weather-aware today as severe thunderstorms are expected to develop east of Interstate 25.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a combination of moisture and a passing weather system will create favorable conditions for strong storms beginning between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Storms may continue into the late evening, potentially lasting until 11 p.m.
In Nebraska, threats include hail up to the size of golf balls, winds exceeding 70 miles per hour, and a slight risk for tornadoes. Areas from Scottsbluff to Sidney and further east could see the strongest storms as they intensify through the late afternoon and evening hours.
In Wyoming, the main threats will be hail around the size of quarters and winds stronger than 60 miles per hour.
The forecast for Sunday calls for cloudy skies early, with scattered thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Some storms could be severe, with a high near 65 and southeast winds between 15 to 25 mph. Sunday night, thunderstorms are expected early, followed by partly cloudy skies overnight with a low around 40 and winds shifting northwest at 15 to 20 mph. Mostly sunny and cooler on Monday with breezy conditions and high near 58.
