KIMBALL -- Mary Lynch Elementary students assisted Kimball’s active living group in its crosswalk-painting activity Friday morning.

Activate Kimball organizes a project called Creative Crosswalks where they choose crosswalks around town to design and paint artwork on. The project was originally approved by the Kimball City Council two years ago.

“Activate Kimball encourages active living in the community like walking, biking and other recreational activities,” said Jamie Bright, co-organizer of Creative Crosswalks. “One of the ways we can do that is by making walking more fun, so the Creative Crosswalks is a fun thing to do to brighten up our community and make the crosswalks more eye-catching and bring a little character to the area.”

The kids in the ELITE program helped to refresh the artwork on the crosswalks in front of the elementary school, which was originally painted in 2023 based on a design created by an elementary student. The design consists of blocks of red, orange, yellow, green and blue.

Activate Kimball started a fresh project last week at the crosswalks in front of the high school that will be a block of white paint with a longhorn in the middle. The cheerleaders will be the ones to go back and paint the longhorns.

In the next month, the group plans to refresh the artwork on the two crosswalks downtown, which is a Lincoln Highway design. It will be red, white and blue with an “L” in the center.
