Widespread Wind Damage Possible as Severe Storms Race Across Northeast Colorado

DENVER, Colo. — May 14, 2025 — The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for multiple counties in northeast Colorado, including Phillips, Sedgwick, Logan, Washington, and northeastern Lincoln. The warning is in effect until 6:45 p.m. MDT.
At 5:58 p.m., severe thunderstorms were detected along a line from near Twin Buttes to 11 miles south of Thurman. The storms are moving east at 45 miles per hour.
Wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour and small hail are the main threats. At 5:33 p.m., the airport in Akron recorded a 63 mph gust, and other reports indicate damaging winds are widespread.
The storms are expected to impact towns including Holyoke, Julesburg, Haxtun, Otis, Fleming, Peetz, Iliff, and Sedgwick, along with several smaller rural communities.
Forecasters warn that tree damage is likely, and that mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings may be at risk. Wind damage may occur before any rain or lightning is visible. Residents are urged to take shelter immediately in a sturdy building and stay away from windows.
