Congratulations to the local athletes and teams who have begun competition at the 2025 Nebraska Girls Tennis State Championships today in Lincoln! Class B competition runs today (Thursday, May 22) and tomorrow, with Class A taking over starting next week.

Four schools from Southeast Nebraska are in Class B this year, and all four [Norris, Crete, Beatrice and Wilber-Clatonia] have sent at least one athlete to compete in the state championship in either singles or doubles. Norris is the only school with a seeded entry: the duo of Kylie Rowland and Myra Carlow begin the tournament ranked No. 11 in #1 doubles – in Class B, the top 12 qualifiers earn seeds.

Southeast Nebraska will be well represented at #1 singles, with Jorja Boller of Beatrice, Presli Harper of Norris, and Jocelyn Hoover of Wilber-Clatonia all in the field and competing in Thursday’s first round. Crete senior Sierra Crist earned an automatic spot in the second round where she will first face Daisy Frohardt from Brownell Talbot.

#2 singles will feature a local matchup in the first round: Wilber-Clatonia's Ashley Milla Lujan against Crete’s Tenley Kozisek. Claire Oelke of Norris and Monet Baehr of Beatrice are also in the field.

Three local duos are in the first round field at #1 doubles: Harley Bloom and Aubrey Ninneman of Wilber-Clatonia, Addison Koenig and Saige Kobes of Beatrice, and Jordyn Adam and Elle Heusinkvelt of Crete. Norris’ Rowland and Carlow, the No. 11 seeds, earned a first-round bye with a record of 25-10 this season and will play a duo from Nebraska City in the second round.

And #2 doubles follows a similar script: tandems from W-C, Crete and Beatrice will compete in the first round while a Norris team will start off in the second. Competing in the opening round will be Hailey Kersten and Lauren Kraus of Crete, Brooke Gleason and Clara Trantham of Beatrice, and Kaylie Fritz and Sage Zoubek of Wilber-Clatonia. The Norris duo of Madalyn Crawford and Macie Wiles has been slotted into the second round where they will face a pair from Omaha Mercy.

First round matches begin at 9 AM Thursday and run all day from Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln. Competition then resumes Friday at 9 AM with play-ins for 5th place matches as well as semifinal matches – championships will then be contested starting at 1 PM.
