HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A toddler died Sunday afternoon after he was accidentally hit by a pickup truck in Hastings, according to police.

The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. on Hawthorne Circle. Hastings Police said the 17-month-old child had been playing outside with several adults nearby when a full-size pickup parked in the area needed to be moved. The driver, who police said was one of the child’s parents, was unaware the boy had gotten near the vehicle and accidentally hit him, according to police.

Family members rushed the child to Mary Lanning Healthcare, where he died from his injuries.

Police said there is no indication of drug or alcohol use, and no signs of neglect. No criminal charges are expected.
