Tornado warning issued for Sterling area

DENVER — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning Monday evening for southwestern Logan County in northeastern Colorado, including the city of Sterling, as a severe thunderstorm tracks eastward through the region.
At 7:44 p.m. MDT, radar indicated a storm capable of producing a tornado near Logan Corners, close to Sterling, moving east at 15 mph. The storm is also producing golf ball size hail.
The tornado warning is in effect until 8:15 p.m. MDT and includes the communities of Sterling, Logan Corners, Atwood, North Sterling Reservoir and Padroni.
Officials warn that heavy rainfall may be obscuring the tornado. Residents are urged not to wait until they can see or hear a tornado. Instead, seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
Flying debris, roof and window damage, and tree destruction are all possible with this storm.
This marks the third tornado warning for Logan County Monday evening as severe storms continue across northeastern Colorado.
