DENVER — A new tornado warning was issued Monday evening for south central Logan County, Colorado, as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado tracked near the city of Sterling.

At 8:09 p.m. MDT, the National Weather Service reported radar-indicated rotation in a storm located near Sterling, moving east at 15 mph. The storm is also producing half dollar size hail.

This warning is in effect until 8:30 p.m. and includes southeastern Sterling and Reiradon Hill.

Forecasters emphasized the storm’s potential danger, warning of flying debris, damage to mobile homes, roofs, vehicles, and trees. The storm is also noted to have a history of producing tornadoes.

“Tornadoes are difficult to observe at night,” the Weather Service said in a statement. “Take cover now!”

Residents in the path are urged to immediately move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built structure and avoid windows.

This is the fourth tornado warning in Logan County Monday evening as intense storms continue to sweep through northeastern Colorado.
