Search warrant leads to multiple arrests

SIDNEY -- The Sidney Police Department executed a search warrant today at 19th Avenue and Maple Street based on information from the community, thorough investigation, and extensive observation.
"This operation resulted in multiple arrests for charges including drug possession and drug paraphernalia. During the execution of the warrant, one of our officers sustained minor injuries from a dog bite and is recovering," Sidney Police Chief Sam Lovato said in a press release.
County Attorney Amber Horn said Jesse Holbrook and James Shoopman, both of Sidney, were arrested. Holbrook was arrested on charges of Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person and Possession of Methamphetamine. Shoopman was arrested on a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine. Shoopman was released on a $10,000 bond, $1,000 cash.
Shoopman appeared in Cheyenne County Court on July 11 for advisement. Arraignment is scheduled for August 11. Holbrook's Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for July 28 in Cheyenne County Court. He is being held on a $10,000 bond, $1,000 cash.
Chief Lovato credits the successful action to the department's new aggressive, proactive approach to policing, shifting from reactive responses to taking the initiative against criminal activity.
"In recent weeks, we've executed three other warrants, leading to over 10 arrests for drug related crimes. We want to extend a huge thank you to the Sidney community. Your tips and information are crucial to our success," Lovato said.
