Norfolk, NE - Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) has a new leader at the helm as Bill McAllister steps in as interim superintendent. Just two weeks into the job, McAllister is already making a splash, expressing enthusiasm for the role and a commitment to elevating the district.

"I've been met with some great people from the central office, and I've been able to meet all the principals and assistant principals," McAllister said. "So I'm very encouraged. And right now, it's everything I was hoping it would be."

McAllister's vision for the upcoming year centers on several key areas. Foremost is a focus on responsible budgeting to ensure resources are allocated effectively across the district. Student safety remains a top priority, with McAllister eager to maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for all students.

Academically, McAllister is keen on implementing strategies to boost student achievement. He highlighted the importance of the Professional Learning Community (PLC) model and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to nurture student growth. "I think that along with MTSS will help us to develop kids in the Tier one, Tier two process mostly, and hopefully get us to the Tier three process," McAllister stated.

Beyond academics and safety, McAllister emphasizes the importance of student involvement in extracurricular activities. "I want all students to be involved, involved in activities of all kind," he said. "We know when students are involved, GPA’s go up, and that's where relationships reform. And overall, we just would like to have a relationship-based education.”

With the first day of school set for August 12th, McAllister is eager to connect with students and staff across the district. He plans to visit a different school each day, making himself accessible to address any concerns or ideas.

"I want to be there," McAllister affirmed. "I think the rest of the central office staff is going to be in buildings every day. That will be somewhat of a change because if we're making decisions for the schools, we want to be in them."

McAllister added, "I'm a kid guy, and that's the best part of this job is being around the kids and being at their activities.” His commitment to being present and engaged signals a new chapter for NPS, one focused on collaboration, student well-being, and academic excellence.
