Silver Dollar under new ownership
SIDNEY -- Tim Backer and Katlynne Mikkelson formally took ownership of the Silver Dollar Bar and Grill on July 1.
The journey started as a dream connected by his full-time job.
“While I worked for Cash-Wa Distributing as my full-time job, we delivered all of Gary’s product to the Silver Dollar when he had it, and to his dad before him actually, too. Gary had mentioned a couple of times that it was for sale. And, of course, what guy doesn’t want to own his own bar,” he said.
He said one thing led to another, negotiations with the owner and they became bar owners.
"There was interest from another person at the bar who made an offer. When she decided to turn that offer down, we made our offer. It just kind of snow-balled from there,” Backer said.
For Backer, owning a bar is something he kept following.
"I've looked at other bars before, as a matter of fact when Gary was looking at selling it the first time back in I think 2016 I talked to him about it as well. And then when Stewies was up for sale I looked into that one as well. And then, it's just the right time in my life, our life, right now to, now or never type deal," he said.
Katlynne Mikkelson said working behind the counter will be a new experience for her.
“I work as a travel nurse, so this is definitely a way different atmosphere. So, I currently only work three days a week as a travel nurse. We’re very blessed to have that position,” she said.
Backer said most of the staff agreed to stay with the new ownership.
“We owe everything to them right now. They’re teaching us how to run our own bar,” he said.
He said the “magic” of the Silver Dollar is the people, and the food.
Backer and Mikkelson said they have no immediate changes planned. The menu will stay as it is, although there may be some future additions. They said June 24th Properties helped in purchasing the Silver Dollar.
