The No. 10 Nebraska softball team grabbed two victories over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits by scores of 9-4 and 8-1 (five innings) on Thursday in the home opener at Bowlin Stadium.

A five-run second inning powered Nebraska to an 8-0, walk-off, five-inning win over South Dakota State in the second game of the doubleheader on Thursday.

With two wins today, NU moved to 16-5 on the season.

Jordy Frahm and Kacie Hoffmann each notched two hits for the Husker offense, while Hannah Camenzind added two RBI. Ava Kuszak, Hoffmann and Bella Bacon each hit a home run. Bacon’s was the walk-off solo shot that ended the game in five innings.

Frahm (5-3) grabbed the win in the circle after throwing five innings with no runs and only five hits, while striking out nine batters.

Kuszak reached on an error to open the bottom of the second inning and Hoffmann homered to make the score 2-0. Hannah Coor walked and Bacon was hit by a pitch before a Lauren Camenzind fielder’s choice took Bacon off the base paths but sent Coor to third. Samantha Bland reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Coor and H. Camenzind doubled to score Bland and L. Camenzind and extend the lead to 5-0.

The Huskers added two runs in the bottom of the third on a Kuszak homer and a Frahm double, which scored L. Camenzind, who singled and Bacon, who reached on a fielder’s choice.

Bacon’s solo home run in the bottom of the fifth sealed the walk-off win for NU.

The Huskers will remain home this Saturday, March 7 to take on the Omaha Mavericks. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.

Huskers Ready Big Ten Championships

The Nebraska wrestling team begins postseason competition after finishing the regular season with a 13-6 dual record. The Huskers travel to State College, Pa., for the 2026 Big Ten Championships, bringing seven top-five pre-seeds to the two-day event, set to begin on Saturday, March 7 at 9 a.m. (CT).

The Big Ten Network will offer live linear and streaming coverage of the championships. Session I begins Saturday, March 7 at 9 a.m. (CT), with Session II semifinals starting at 6 p.m. (CT). The championship coverage continues Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT) with consolation matches on B1G+ and returns to BTN at 3:30 p.m. (CT) for the final bouts. Additional mat coverage can be streamed on B1G+ for every session (subscription required).

NU has never finished lower than eighth in its 14 years competing in the Big Ten, including 11 top-five finishes and the last three consecutive seasons placing in the top three. The 112th Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center, hosted by Penn State.

Last season, the Huskers finished second with 137 team points, the most points recorded by Nebraska in a conference tournament. Ridge Lovett and Brock Hardy highlighted the tournament, winning the Big Ten title in their respective weight classes, marking Lovett’s second straight title and the first duo to bring home multiple Big Ten titles in 11 years. NU had six top-five finishers and clinched nine automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.

After wrapping up the regular season ranked No. 5 in dual competition, Antrell Taylor (157) and Christopher Minto (174) grabbed the top spot at their weight classes. Three Huskers are seeded at No. 2, including Brock Hardy (141), Camden McDanel (197) and AJ Ferrari (285), followed by Silas Allred (184) seeded in third and Jacob Van Dee (133) in sixth. Four Huskers are making Big Ten Tournament debuts in the Husker singlet, including Ferrari, LJ Araujo (165) at No. 5, Chance Lamer (149) at No. 6 and Kael Lauridsen (125) seeded at No. 11.

The results of the Big Ten Championships help decide the field for the NCAA tournament, which is set for March 19-21 in Cleveland, Ohio. Wrestlers can earn automatic qualification to the championships based on place finish in their respective qualifying tournaments. Each conference qualifying tournament was awarded pre-allocations and the amount per weight class for the Big Ten is as follows: 125 (nine), 133 (eight), 141 (seven), 149 (nine), 157 (eight), 165 (nine), 174 (ten), 184 (eight), 197 (ten), 285 (nine).
