LINCOLN — The battle for Josh supremacy continues.

After a wildly successful first chapter of the sarcastic Josh Fight, organizer Josh Swain says there will be a second edition. He announced the event’s return on Twitter with a post captioned, “there can only be one.”

The origins of the Josh Fight date back to April 24, 2020 when Swain sent a Facebook message to every other Josh Swain on Facebook challenging them to a fight to keep the name. The message was meant as a joke, but when a screenshot spread across the internet, he knew the meetup needed to happen.

“I was like, ‘oh my God the internet remembered and if I don’t do something, they’re going to be upset,” Swain said after the first Josh Fight.

The event’s random location was Air Park in Lincoln. Hundreds of people showed up from across the state and across the nation. A Josh Swain from Omaha dueled the original Swain, who is from Arizona, in rock, paper, scissors. The highlight was a giant pool noodle fight between all people named Josh. A four-year-old dubbed “Little Josh” was declared the winner.

The original Josh Fight raised $44,000 for Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha and gathered hundreds of pounds of food for the local food bank.

“If you're in the Lincoln/Omaha/Nebraska region we'd love to see you there, all proceeds go towards Children’s Omaha,” Swain said on Twitter.

The second Josh Fight is scheduled for May 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bowling Lake Park in Lincoln. This time, Swain is selling tickets for $10 or $11 via the website thejoshfight.com. The site says the event will include food trucks, a costume contest and the second Josh Fight. The event will benefit Children's Hospital and Medical Center Foundation in Nebraska.
