Gov. Pete Ricketts is ramping up the likelihood that Nebraska will soon make one more push to ban abortion.

Appearing on CNN over the weekend, Ricketts also made it clear the ban would include cases of rape and incest.

Gov. Ricketts: "I believe life begins at conception and those are babies too. So, if Roe v. Wade, which was a horrible, constitutional decision, gets overturned by the Supreme Court, which we're hopeful of, here in Nebraska, we're going to take further steps to protect those pre-born babies.”

Ricketts says he plans to work with Speaker of the Legislature Mike Hilgers to call a special session and pass an abortion ban.

But a vote in favor of a ban is not a given.

In recent weeks the state’s top abortion foes came up short trying to enact a so-called trigger law, immediately prohibiting abortions if Roe v Wade is overturned.

Pro-choice lawmakers had just enough votes to stop the ban using a filibuster that left pro-life forces two votes short of the 33 votes needed to call for a vote on the bill.
