Longhorn Recognition Night celebrates students’ achievements

KIMBALL -- The Kimball Jr./Sr. High School students received awards Monday Night at Longhorn Recognition Night.
The 2nd annual ceremony included awards in athletics, academics, scholarships, music, and other activities.
Principal Danielle Reader announced and presented the Valedictorian, Renee Murdoch, and Salutatorian, Conner Deboodt, with their trophies and certificates.
“I’m proud of both of them for their hard work throughout their four years of high school,” Reader said. “It was a close race this year; we had some high achieving scholars at the top end of our senior class.”
Reader also recognized all the other students who achieved the goals they set out.
“We did goal setting for our spring testing, and we had 84 students meet their goals and qualify for a trip to Slick City in Denver next week,” Reader said.
Each student in each grade received a packet that contained the certificates of their awards and/or participation in athletics, activities and academics.
Reader added that they handed out over $30,000 worth of scholarships from community entities.
Activities Director Darell Howitt said there were 28 academic all-state recipients this year, which recognizes student-athletes for their athletic achievements and strong academic performance.
A recently established award is the Academic Cup which is given to the sports team that has the highest team GPA.
First place went to the girls’ golf team. Coming in second was the girls' volleyball team, and third went to the boys' basketball team.
