BUSHNELL - No injuries were reported in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 near Bushnell early Friday morning.

Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas says a big rig jack-knifed near mile marker 6 at approximately 12:20 a.m., leading to a chain reaction crash that involved a total of six semi-tractor-trailers.

Both directions of Interstate 80 were closed for about five hours while the accident was cleared from the road.

No official cause of the accident was released by authorities, but photos from a Nebraska Department of Transportation travel camera showed snow completely covering roads in Kimball County.

Officials were cautioning travelers of "severe road conditions due to weather" overnight and to be prepared for winter driving conditions Friday morning across the Nebraska panhandle.

Thomas reports a couple other secondary crashes, but no injuries were reported in those incidents.

The Kimball area was forecast to receive up to three inches of snow by Friday morning. Residents around Cheyenne have reported up to six and seven inches of snow.

Snowfall ended in Kimball County before 4 a.m. Friday's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and a high of 39. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

The county, along with Scotts Bluff, Banner, East Laramie, and Goshen Counties, are in a high wind warning from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected.

According to the National Weather Service Office in Cheyenne, damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines.

They say widespread strong crosswinds could create hazardous travel for all motorists on Interstate 80 between Wyoming mile marker 383 and Nebraska Interstate mile marker 35. Light weight and high profile vehicles, including light load semis and those towing camper trailers, will be especially at risk.
