Former Virginia standout Kemp transferring to Huskers

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska has gone back to the transfer portal to help fill out its wide receiver corps.
Former Virginia wide receiver Billy Kemp announced Monday night that he will be transferring to Nebraska, joining the Huskers after five seasons in Charlottesville.
In addition to being granted an extra year for COVID-19 in 2020, Kemp and six other UVA football players were given an extra season of eligibility by the NCAA following a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of three of Kemp's teammates. The Cavaliers canceled their final two games of the season, and the seven players given an extra season were seniors were no more eligibility at the time.
In his announcement post on Twitter, Kemp included the jersey numbers of all three shooting victims -- Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis and D'Sean Perry. Kemp wore Davis' #1 with a Husker jersey, while holding up Husker jerseys with Perry's #41 and Chandler's #15.
Kemp had initially stated his intentions of entering the NFL Draft, but he chose to enter the transfer portal last month instead.
He has the fourth most receptions in Virginia history, hauling in 192 balls for 1,774 yards in his career in Charlottesville. His receiving yardage total ranks 10th on the program charts.
The 5'9", 172 lb. wide receiver also became the first Cavalier to lead the team in punt returns and punt return yardage for four straight seasons.
Nebraska is hoping Kemp joins a recent list of wide receiver transfer success stories, with Samori Toure and Trey Palmer providing a boost out of the transfer portal in the past two seasons.
