NE reaction to Trump's reported indictment politically predictable

Nebraska reaction to former President Donald Trump’s reported indictment is—for the most—following along party lines.
The state’s longest serving member on Capitol Hill, GOP Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-3) tells News Channel Nebraska, “I am incredibly concerned about the weaponization of our justice system by a radical district attorney in an attempt to stop a political opponent.”
Smith, who represents one of the country’s safest Republican seats adding, “Americans are rightfully tired of inconsistent application of the law and will not tolerate this sort of politically-motivated targeting.”
Smith’s fellow Republican, Rep. Don Bacon, who is serving his fourth term in the Omaha area’s purple 2nd Congressional District not going nearly as far. “I trust our legal system. There’s checks and balances with a jury, judges and appeals, says Bacon. “President Trump will be able to make his defense and we’ll all see if this is a partisan prosecution or not.”
The head of the Nebraska Democratic Party, Jane Kleeb who says Trump, like former GOP Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, will be held accountable for his crimes, adds that Bacon has been for trying to have it “both ways” when it comes to Trump.

“On the one hand (Bacon) is telling us to trust the party that lied to their base about the 2020 election results, “says KIeeb. “Then on the other hand he is trying to pretend to be a moderate. Reality is Bacon always ends up giving cover to Donald Trump and votes with the extreme MAGA wing 98% of the time.”
According to various news reports—following an initial report by the New York Times—Trump has been indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney and is the first former president to face criminal charges. The precise charges are not yet known, but the case is focused on a hush-money payment to a porn star during his 2016 campaign.
Trump calls the indictment, “Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.”
According to Kleeb, “The scams, conspiracy theories and flat out lies are endless with Trump and yet Republican politicians continue to make excuses for him.”
