One day after Republicans in the Nebraska Legislature pushed out a new, last-minute plan to further restrict abortion, opponents ramped up their session-long on again, off again filibuster.

This time it involved a somewhat obscure rules debate but at times turned into charges and counter-charges.

Opponents of Ben Hansen's proposed amendment accused members of the GOP, including the Pillen Administration of “pure political power” plays and changing rules in the middle of the game, while Republicans blamed Democrats for wasting valuable floor time, as the session rapidly winds down.

At the center of Tuesday's feud, State Senators Megan Hunt and Machaela Cavanaugh, while the Republican Speaker, John Arch of Papillion, insisted he was playing by the rules.

Currently Nebraska bans abortion after 20 weeks. A move to make that 6 weeks recently failed and now finds a potential 12 week ban in the works after a proposed amendment by Hansen, which would be added to a bill opposed by transgender advocates.

Hunt and Cavanaugh have fought against any further abortion restrictions along with efforts to block those looking to restrict health care for transgender individuals under the age of 19.
