As we’ve been reporting Chris Christie surprised many yesterday, when he dropped out of the presidential race.

His departure likely to have a bigger impact in New Hampshire in 12 days than in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first vote in four days, although Iowans remain convinced their votes will matter.

Former President Donald Trump: “Iowa, first in the nation I wonder how you got that. You got that because of me.”

With Democrats sidestepping Iowa this year former President Donald Trump takes credit for keeping this year’s Iowa Caucuses where they’ve been for 50 years, the country’s first vote for President.

And with time running out it’s all Trump, all the time.

Nikki Haley/(R) Presidential Candidate: “It is time to move past President Trump, and it is time to start focusing on how to strengthen America."

Gov. Ron DeSantis/(R) Presidential Candidate: “You don't want it to be a referendum on Trump and the past. You want it to be a referendum on Biden’s failures."

Joe Jordan, NCN: But polls in Iowa find Trump well ahead. In a December CBS News Poll: Trump led DeSantis by 36 points, Haley by 45.

Jeff Jorgensen is the former head of the Pottawattamie County GOP, and current County Supervisor. He’s backing Trump.

Jeff Jorgensen: “Polls aren’t always reliable in Iowa at this time. But I’m going to say from what I’ve seen from my vantage point, President Trump has a substantial advantage. I know he’s going to win Iowa, we’ll see what kind of margins they are.”

Haley recently drew gentle boos from a Des Moines audience over a statement she made earlier in New Hampshire.

Nikki Haley/(R) Presidential Candidate: "You know Iowa starts it. You know that you correct it. You know that you continue to go... (claps).”

…she smilingly downplayed that comment.

Nikki Haley/(R) Presidential Candidate: "New Hampshire makes fun of Iowa. Iowa makes fun of South Carolina. It's what we do.”

Jordan: “How does Iowa voting and New Hampshire correcting sit with you?”

Jorgensen: “Not very well to tell you the truth. Like I say we are first in the nation, we do tend to narrow the field, that’s basically our role.”

And when that narrowed field moves to New Hampshire, there’s a recent CNN poll that finds Trump’s lead over Haley down to 7 points, 39-32.

Whether its New Hampshire our Iowa, Trump wants voters to know one thing.

Trump: “You have to do me a favor, just go out and vote. Terrible things have happened. Oh, he’s got it made, we’ll wait until November. No, you’ve got to get out and caucus, get out and vote.”
