Rhule previews Colorado, ahead of Saturday prime time tilt
LINCOLN, NEB. - One of the most talked about matchups on Nebraska’s 2024 schedule takes place this Saturday night.
Matt Rhule’s Huskers are set to welcome Deions Sanders and Colorado for the 73rd all-time meeting in series history. Both teams picked up wins in week one, and Nebraska Rhule says Nebraska’s in for a challenge as the Buffaloes present high speed and skill at their skill positions.
“They’ve got great players… They’re fast, athletic, explosive,” Rhule said. “To me five [WR, Jimmy Horn Jr.] is a difference maker, obviously Travis [Hunter] plays both ways, which is amazing.”
Wideout Jimmy Horn Jr., hauled in seven passes for 198 yards and a score in Colorado’s 31-26 week one win over North Dakota State, while two-way player Travis Hunter recorded seven catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Rhule also noted the ability of Colorado quarterback Shedder Sanders, saying Sanders has the ability to throw sideline to sideline and use all 53 and a third yards of the field.
While much is being made of Saturday’s long-awaited rematch, Rhule says he isn’t making it bigger than it is, but focusing in on the football.
“I just look at this as a really good football test for two teams,” Rhule said. “Two teams who want to be relevant at the end of the year, we’re going to play us, we’re going to play them, but we’re not even in the same conference.. While I know it matters to people and to us and to them [Colorado], we’re going to see where we are. We’re focusing on the football and nothing else.”
While the Huskers may be focusing in on the football, Rhule doesn’t doubt Saturday being one neat scene in a Lincoln.
“I think it’ll be a great great great atmosphere.. Night game, people have all day to get themselves ready it should be loud and should be a home field advantage,” Rhule said. “Let’s all be Nebraska nice on Sunday, it should eb a loud loud raucous atmosphere.”
Saturday's contest is a rematch of last years game in Boulder, won by Colorado 36-14 -Nebraska committed four turnovers in the loss.
Kick off is set for 6:30 central on Saturday, with the game on NBC.
