State Treasurer's Office updated website shows more transparency in state tax dollar spending
STATEWIDE, Neb. – If you've ever wondered how state officials are spending your tax dollars, a new feature on the State Treasurer's website is allowing you to do exactly that.
State Treasurer Tom Briese wants Nebraskans to know about a new feature on the State Treasurer's website, which is what he calls the 'Tax-payer Transparency Website'
On the revamped page at statespending.nebraska.gov, the public has full access to view exact amounts of state spending, including the state's current fiscal year budget, sources of state funds, fiscal year expenditures, and more records by various organizations.
Further breakdowns show the exact spending amount by 79 different state agencies, and how much of the budget they spent in a fiscal year.
Treasurer Briese says upgrading the website came from his beliefs of transparency for Nebraskans.
"I would encourage folks to get on the website, see what you see, and if you don't like the way your tax dollars are being spent, let your elected officials know," said Briese.
The new website is free to use and can be accessed by anyone.
"That is just good governance, and will help create accountability in government," said Briese. "That will help ensure efficient government, and hopefully help the taxpayers save some dollars over time."
