LINCOLN, Neb.— The capital city has declared a snow emergency.
Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor-Baird held a press conference with city officials Wednesday afternoon to make the announcement and update residents on how the city is dealing with the winter storm.
The snow emergency means:
- Parking is banned on both sides of the street on emergency snow routes, arterial streets and school and bus routes.
- In residential areas, parking is banned on the odd numbered side of the street.
- The transfer station, land fill and recycling centers are closed.
- StarTran is still running but patrons are to expect 5 to 10 minute delays.
Gaylor-Baird said the city is also aware of at least 30 intersections where power to the street lights are out, including 14th and Pine Lake.
Motorists are supposed to treat all intersections without functional traffic lights as four-way stops.
Gaylor Baird said the city is expected to receive between 3 to 9 inches of snow before the storm blows through.
