Vistabeam celebrates launch of Kimball Fiber Project

KIMBALL -- Vistabeam team members and Kimball officials gathered in downtown Kimball Tuesday afternoon for a ribbon cutting event to celebrate the launch of their Fiber Project.
Crews began work in early April on a major broadband infrastructure upgrade in Kimball, aimed at delivering faster and more reliable internet to homes and businesses across the community.
COO Andrew Wicker says the first phase of construction is complete and crews have moved onto the next phase.
The Fiber Project began with crews hanging the strands of metal support wire on the poles that will hold the fiber up.
The second phase of the construction has begun, which is hanging the fiber cable itself on the strands. This will take another month or so.
The final phase is the splicing and testing, which is where a specialty technician goes through and connects the little strands of glass together to form the fiber.
Once a service terminal is completed and tested, it will be ready to hook up a customer’s connection. As soon as one is ready, they will offer services to homes that are next to that terminal.
“We're based in Nebraska; this is home to us. It was really important to us for these towns right here in our back yard to get the best possible service,” said Wicker.
