Cool temps delay Sidney Aquatic Center opening to Tuesday

SIDNEY, Neb. — The City of Sidney announced it will delay the grand opening of the Sidney Aquatic Center due to forecasted unseasonably cool and wet weather this weekend.
Originally scheduled to open Saturday, the Aquatic Center will now welcome swimmers on Tuesday, May 27, following a weekend forecast that includes highs in the upper 50s and a 70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms.
“Safety comes first,” the city shared in a social media post Friday. “We know you were looking forward to diving in this weekend, but with temperatures below 65 degrees and storms in the forecast, we’ll wait for sunnier skies.”
The city said it appreciates residents’ understanding and looks forward to a season full of sunshine, swimming and memorable moments.
The National Weather Service forecasts a high of 59 degrees Saturday in Sidney, with showers and possible thunderstorms expected after noon.
