Severe thunderstorm warning issued for four Nebraska Panhandle counties

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Box Butte County, northeastern Scotts Bluff County, northwestern Morrill County, and southeastern Sioux County.
The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m. MDT Friday.
At 4:47 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles southwest of Kilpatrick Lake, or 17 miles northeast of Scottsbluff, moving east at 15 mph.
Radar indicated the storm is capable of producing golf ball size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.
People and animals outdoors may be injured. Hail may cause significant damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees is also possible.
Areas at risk include Kilpatrick Lake and Lake Minatare State Recreation Area.
Residents are urged to seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
