DENVER — The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Logan County in northeastern Colorado, effective until 5:45 p.m. MDT Friday.

At 4:56 p.m., a severe storm was located near Logan Corners, about 9 miles northwest of Sterling, moving southeast at 30 mph.

The storm is radar-indicated and capable of producing golf ball size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph. Hazards may cause injury to people and animals outdoors. Significant hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles is possible, along with damaging wind gusts.

Communities in the path of the storm include Sterling, Merino, Atwood, Logan Corners, and Reiradon Hill.

Residents in the warning area should seek shelter in a sturdy structure, away from windows.
