Perkins County boys win Class C state track and field title behind distance dominance

OMAHA — Perkins County used a dominant performance in the distance events to win the Class C boys team championship at the NSAA State Track and Field Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke Stadium.
The Plainsmen scored 58 team points, clinching the title behind a two gold-medals and a silver medal performance from senior Mason McGreer. He swept the distance races, winning the 1,600 meters in 4:20.92 and the 3,200 meters in 9:21.17 — both personal-best times. He also PR'd in the 800 meters in 1:55.03, finishing second.
Sophomore Elijah Goodell added two runner-up finishes for Perkins County, taking second in the 1,600 meters at 4:24.57 and in the 3,200 meters at 9:25.19.
The distance group also led the Plainsmen to a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:01.36. The team consisted of Goodell, McGreer, Brock Tines and Rylee Schrotberger. The 4x400-meter relay team of Tines, Schrotberger, Colton Kroeker and Ryder Potts added more points with a sixth-place finish in 3:27.27.
Potts, a senior, contributed with a pair of sixth-place finishes, clocking 22.78 seconds in the 200 meters and 50.40 in the 400.
Mitchell’s Kate Pieper earned a bronze medal in the girls pole vault, clearing 11 feet. She also competed in the long jump, finishing 15th.
Bridgeport’s Fallon DeBlois secured a sixth-place medal in the girls shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 7.25 inches. Teammate Taylor Bright finished 19th in the 100-meter dash, and the Bulldogs’ 4x100 relay team also placed 16th.
Kimball High School led a strong western Nebraska contingent at the 2025 NSAA Class D State Track and Field Championships, claiming four medals and a 12th-place team finish with 19 points at Omaha Burke Stadium.
Senior Derek Russell powered the Longhorns with a pair of top-five finishes — second in the discus (158-10) and fourth in the shot put (51-5). Kimball also picked up a fourth-place finish from Brayden Fuss in the boys pole vault (13-0), while Peter Russell added a seventh-place medal in the same event (12-6).
Leyton senior Zaili Benish placed third in the girls 300-meter hurdles in 45.64 seconds and earned another medal by taking eighth in the 100-meter hurdles. She also anchored the Warriors’ 4x400-meter relay team to a sixth-place finish (4:13.36) with teammates Riley Jones, Shawnee Gamble and Macey Roelle. Gamble added a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters and seventh in the 100.
The Warriors finished 18th overall with 17 points in the team standings.
Leyton junior Alec Watchorn was seventh in the boys 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.01.
Potter-Dix freshman Drew Jeppson made a strong debut, finishing fifth in the boys discus with a personal-best throw of 150-10.
South Platte’s Nathan Jacobs and Quinten Koenen both represented the Blue Knights in Omaha. Jacobs finished 14th in the 100-meter prelims and 11th in the 200, while Koenen placed 19th in the 800-meter final. The Blue Knights’ 4x400-meter relay team placed 11th.
Kimball’s Conrad Kaminski placed 14th in the 1600 meters and 13th in the 3200.
Garden County’s Jase Roberson placed 22nd in the boys 400 meters.
