Golf ball hail, 70 mph winds hit Pine Bluffs and Kimball County

PINE BLUFFS, Wyo. – The National Weather Service in Cheyenne issued a severe thunderstorm warning Monday evening for southwestern Kimball County in Nebraska and southeastern Laramie County in Wyoming, effective until 6 p.m. MDT.
At 5:14 p.m., radar detected a severe thunderstorm over Pine Bluffs Municipal Airport, about 26 miles west of Kimball, moving east at 20 mph. The storm is producing golf ball-sized hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph.
Communities impacted include Pine Bluffs, Bushnell, Egbert, Panorama Point, Oliver Reservoir and Oliver Reservoir Campground.
Authorities warn the storm could cause significant damage. People and animals outdoors are at risk of injury. Damage to roofs, siding, windows, vehicles, trees and outbuildings is expected.
Residents are urged to seek shelter in a sturdy building and avoid windows. The weather service noted the potential for tornadoes to develop quickly from this type of storm and encouraged people to move to basements or interior rooms if a tornado is spotted.
