Storm with 70 mph winds heads for Scotts Bluff and Goshen counties

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The National Weather Service in Cheyenne issued a severe thunderstorm warning Monday evening for western Scotts Bluff and southwestern Sioux counties in Nebraska and east central Goshen County in Wyoming. The warning is in effect until 6:15 p.m. MDT.
At 5:24 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Torrington Municipal Airport, moving southeast at 35 mph. The storm is producing wind gusts up to 70 mph and penny-sized hail.
Locations in the path of the storm include Scottsbluff, Gering, Torrington, Mitchell, Terrytown, Morrill, Henry, Lake Alice, Torrington Municipal Airport, Scotts Bluff National Monument, and the fairgrounds in both Scotts Bluff and Goshen counties.
The storm is expected to cause considerable tree damage and potential damage to roofs, mobile homes, and outbuildings. Torrential rain may lead to flash flooding in some areas.
Residents in the warning area should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows, and do not drive through flooded roadways.
