NORFOLK - The road to success in stand-up is typically paved in a straight direction -
either east to New York, or west to Los Angeles.

But Cameron Logsdon’s road is anything but typical.

“I’ve always wanted to do comedy,” the Omaha native said. “I’ve always wanted to be around
the entertainment industry and tell stories.”

But Logsdon said having his son while still in high school changed his career trajectory a bit.

“I grew up without a dad and I said ‘That’s not going to be my kid,’” Logsdon said. “I’ve been
really committed to raising my son, and I’ve raised him here [in Omaha]. Because of that, I’ve looked at this whole career a lot differently.”

Logsdon had to carve out a unique path to success by being unequivocally himself.

Which - ironically - means spending a lot of time as other people.

“I think an early voice for me was Jim Carrey,” Logsdon said. “Then over time I would watch
other movies and their voices would seep in.”

Logsdon has built an impressive repertoire of celebrity impressions, with his spot-on renditions
of actors like Mark Wahlberg, Will Smith, and Owen Wilson helping amass an incredible following online - with over 22,000 subscribers on YouTube and over one million followers on Instagram.

He’s parlayed that success on stage as well, touring his stand-up act all over the country, while
still being based in Omaha.

And now, he’s gotten the call to perform at this year’s Great American Comedy Festival.

For someone who’s already done and seen so much, coming to Norfolk will be a first.

“I know enough about Norfolk to not mess up the ‘L’,” Logsdon said, referencing the town’s
unique pronunciation. “But that’s about the extent of it.”

That isn’t to say that performing at the festival hasn’t been on Logsdon’s radar.

“I’ve always sheepishly wanted to be a part of this festival,” Logsdon said. “People don’t realize how amazing it is that we have this level of comedians are coming from all over the world to Norfolk out of all places! The show that people are going to get isn’t going to happen anywhere else in the country.”

Adding Nebraska-based comedians to the worldwide talent showcase has been a focus for the
festival the last few years, with Omaha-based comics like Steve Berg and Rachel Ware also gracing the Johnny Carson Theatre stage.

“It just makes so much sense to have people with Nebraska roots at a festival honoring Johnny
Carson,” said festival Executive Director Pat Janssen. “Cam Logsdon is blowing up internationally, but he is still based right here in Nebraska. He's become heavily in demand. Even though he's only two hours away, I wasn't sure he'd be available, but I'm so glad he is.”

It reinforces what Logsdon has already known, that you don’t need to go L.A. or New York to
find great comedy.
“I think it’s incredible that we have this caliber of festival in Nebraska,” Logsdon said. “To be
from Nebraska and to be a part of it, after watching it grow from afar all these years, makes me really excited to be a part of it.”

Cameron Logsdon will be part of the Saturday Gala performance along with Chip Chantry, Ali
Kolbert, Eunji Kim, host Adam Tiller, and headliner Yakov Smirnov. He’ll also be among the eight comedians performing at the Friday night late show at Norfolk’s District Event Center.

The Great American Comedy Festival is presented by Midwest AcuTech. It is also made possible with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

The annual festival opened in 2008 to honor the legacy of Norfolk’s favorite son, Johnny Carson, who was host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show” for over 25 years.
