SIDNEY - The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Juniors and Seniors notched decisive wins over the Bridgeport Bombers Post 29, on a 96-degree night, at Sidney’s Legion Field on Friday. The Sidney Juniors shutout the Bombers 13-0 in a three-inning affair, while the Sidney Seniors scored a 14-3 win over Bridgeport Seniors in four innings.

Sidney starting pitcher Rhys Dorcey shut down Bridgeport in order in the top of the first inning to open the Junior game. The Sidney Post 17 Juniors then sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs, in the home half if the opening inning to set the tone for the game. Sidney batted around again in the second inning, plating four additional runs to stretch their lead to 13-0. Dorcey struck out three of the five batters he faced in the top of the third inning to close out the game.

Dorcey paced the Juniors on the mound, throwing three shutout innings while allowing only one hit, striking out five and walking two. He also led Sidney at the plate, by going three for three while scoring three runs and collecting three RBIs. Connor Schumacher, Sam Hulburt and Weston Neumann all went two for two at the plate while Anderson Smelley added three RBIs with a bases clearing double in the first inning.

The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Juniors finished with 13 runs on 11 hits over two innings to improve to 7-4 on the season. The Bridgeport Bombers Post 29 Juniors ended the game with just one hit to fall to 1-8 for the year. The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Juniors will host the Westco Express 16U in a nine-inning game at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday before entertaining the Gering Platte Valley Companies Juniors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Seniors continued the trend in the nightcap, shutting down the Bridgeport Bombers Post 29 Seniors in the top of the first and then scoring four runs on three hits in the bottom of the opening inning.

After drawing a two out walk in the top of the second inning, Bridgeport got on the board with an RBI double by Andrew Compton, plating Noah Compton for the Bombers first run to make the score 4-1. Sidney responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring six runs on five hits to extend their lead to 10-1.

Will Gillham earned the win for Sidney, giving up two runs, one earned, on one hit over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Aidan Baker, who started on the mound for Sidney, gave up a run on two hits in two innings of work, striking out none and walking one. Josh Kler took the loss for Bridgeport, giving up 12 runs on 10 hits, striking out one and walking five over two innings.

Cleanup hitter Rhyder Bayne led the Sidney offense, going three for three at the plate, scoring three runs and collecting one RBI. Kyle Jaggers was two for two at the dish, scoring three times and knocking in two.

The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Seniors improve to 2-4 while the Bridgeport Bombers Post 29 Seniors fall to 0-5. The Sidney Seniors will host the Gering Platte Valley Companies Seniors on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
