Event scheduled for August 8 at Legion Park

SIDNEY -- On August 8, the Night of Hope Cancer Walk will celebrate 25 years in Sidney.

"Our theme for this year is 'Supporting the Fight for 25 years," said Kim Phillips, president of the Night of Hope Walk for Cancer Foundation board.

Phillips said this year will have many of traditional elements, and some updates as well.

"With it being the 25th year, we've kind of gotten into the new and we are going to accept credit cards, PayPal and Venmo the night of the walk," she said.

She said the Night of Hope will no longer be a cash-only event. She said the board is presently focused on getting teams organized.

"Right now, we are focusing on getting teams together. We've reached out to Shirt Tales, and we are going to have Korrina (Doty) and staff do the shirts this year. And Dennis Cheatham once again designed our shirts for the 25th year," she said.

The Night of Hope will continue to have the Chair-ity Auction, Silent Auction, luminary ceremony, slideshow, survivors lap, kids games and donation barbecue and more.

Night of Hope began as an effort to keep funds local, Phillips said.

"Twenty-five years ago, a group of us got together to start the Night of Hope Walk for Cancer Foundation so we could break away from the American Cancer Society. We wanted to keep all of the funds local," Phillips said.
