KIMBALL -- Police officers are out in town today practicing traffic management.

The officers are by Gotte Park setting up cones and using different techniques they would in a real-life traffic scenario to keep their responders safe on the roadways.

Following several accidents involving State Troopers, Chief of Police Jose Ruiz said he wanted to emphasize officer safety by having his officers practice traffic management.

“Our safety on the roadway is a big issue, and it’s something we want to make sure that we’re doing correctly and safely,” Ruiz said.

The department is asking the public to take the following precautions:

  • Slow down when driving near East 3rd Street and Gotte Park
  • Stay alert for emergency personnel and equipment
  • Obey all posted signs and directions from officers
  • Avoid the area, if possible, to reduce congestion and ensure a safe environment for the training
