Staff injury reported at Tecumseh prison

TECUMSEH – The state Department of Correctional Services reports serious injuries to a staff member at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institute on Wednesday.
A press release says an inmate used a homemade weapon in an attack and describes injuries as lacerations to the arm, thumb and forehead that required stitches. The press release says multiple staff responded to restrain the inmate.
A SERVES team has been deployed to deliver resilience-promoting interventions for staff members and their families.

July 10, 2025 (Tecumseh, Neb.) – A staff member at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) sustained serious* injuries in an inmate assault yesterday.
The inmate attacked the staff member in a support building with a homemade weapon. Multiple staff responded to the assault and restrained the inmate. The staff member received stitches at the hospital for lacerations to the arm, thumb and forehead.
NDCS deployed multiple SERVES members to support TSCI staff. SERVES is an NDCS special team that delivers resilience-promoting interventions to staff members and their families prior to, during and following a critical incident.
An investigation of the incident has been launched. Findings will be provided to the county attorney for determination of criminal prosecution. The NDCS disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions such as loss of good time, applied according to the rules and regulations.
