SIDNEY – Why walk snow-covered streets when you can enjoy the Christmas season in a controlled environment?

That question led to designing the “All is Bright” Christmas tour. Cheyenne County Tourism Director Kendra Mitchell provided the Cheyenne County Commissioners Monday with an overview of the third indoor holiday tour.

“I want to just do a brief overview of the new things we did this year. A couple of you were able to come out there and see some of the fun stuff we added, but the ‘Deck the Trees’ contest was definitely one of our best additions this year. A lot of people really enjoyed that,” Mitchell said.

“Deck the Trees” was an opportunity for businesses,  organizations, and individuals to decorate a tree. Ballots were available to decide on the best decorated trees. She said about 3,000 votes were counted in the contest.

The event was promoted on several platforms.

“We had a marketing grant from Visit Nebraska, we were included in the Visit Nebraska Holiday Passport Program. We also added field trips this year, so I reached out to all of the county schools and invited all of their elementary kids to come out and walk through it during the day in hopes that they would go home and tell their parents how much fun they had and they come back that weekend,” she said.

She said students from Potter-Dix, Sidney and Creek Valley accepted the invitation. Attendance for the 2025 tour came to almost 4,500 people, a 27 percent increase over 2024, she said.

Extension Educator Jamie Bright said Mitchell is also one of three finalists for a tourism award at the state tourism conference. She is being recognized for the All Is Bright  tour.
