Whatley announces candidacy for Cheyenne County Clerk

SIDNEY -- Whitney Whatley announced Wednesday she is seeking the office of Cheyenne County Clerk.
“I have been in service in one way or another for the past 20 years; between the Marine Corps and then as an assistant at Cabela’s for quite a few years, at Plainswest CASA, and now at the Veterans Service Office I just really want to continue to serve our community and improve processes and follow a good leadership,” Whatley said this morning.
She says serving the community has been one of her greatest privileges. Her desire to serve, and attention to detail would be evident in whatever role she is in.
“Some of the things voters can expect from me is steady leadership, clear communication, obviously respect for taxpayer dollars I live here, taxpayer myself; attention to detail, I’m very Type-A. That is right up my alley; and then of course professional service. I think access to information is also another really big thing for me. Many of us just want to be able to log onto our computer, pick our phone and find the information right there at our fingertips,” she said.
She is also passionate about involving the younger generation in local government.
“I also want to get some of our youth involved in the election processes and we have to start building up our youth because they’re going to come in after us, right? So, if we get them involved, that’s another idea of mine that I can highlight at some point,” she said.
Whatley is born and raised in Cheyenne County. She said she comes from a long line of farmers starting in the Gurley area. Her parents and her grandparents were business owners. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps and returned to Cheyenne County.
“When I came back, I got really tied into Cabela’s, and then I just saw our community from a different light as an adult, as a parent, and then especially as we’ve gone on and I’ve gotten more involved with organizations and other groups and just seeing how really awesome our community is and what we have available at our fingertips,” she said.
