KIMBALL -- Britton Culek secured his spot in the State Wrestling Tournament by placing 4th place at Districts over the weekend.

The other wrestlers who competed at Districts were Maison Holmes, Kip Gillming, Landon Bohac, and Bryce Eggli.

“Britton has put in a lot of time wrestling; he started when he was 5 years old and has never quit,” said Coach Bob Culek. “He wrestled all summer; he practiced with some of the best area kids all summerlong, putting the time in that he needed to reach the goals that we wanted. He never gives up; he works hard.”

Culek said they had a great group of boys this year who put in time and effort to make it a great season.

“Maison wrestled pretty hard. He just wasn’t able to get through the heartbreak round to qualify for state; he did qualify last year,” Culek said. “Bryce was a good kid, practiced hard, he came in every day even when his body was hurting, his knee was hurting; he still came in and practiced every day.”

Culek said Gillming and Bohac both improved immensely this season. Gillming had the fastest pin in the Districts – 9 seconds.

“Hopefully Landon will continue his growth and come back next year,” Culek said. “I think he can build on that and possibly be in the state tournament.”
