LINCOLN, Neb. - The Bennington Badgers girls basketball program now finds themselves in elite company.
The Badgers topped conference foe Gretna East 49-38 in the Class B title game on Saturday to win their first ever girls basketball state championship and complete a 28-0 undefeated season.
Bennington jumped out to an 8-0 lead sparked by two three pointers from Macie Reiner to start the game, leading 17-4 at the end of the first quarter. Reiner would lead all scorers with 23.
Gretna East trimmed the deficit to six at the half time, but the Badgers pulled away in the fourth to secure the win.
Bennington moves up to Class A next season.
