One person dead, two people injured in Sarpy County crash

SARPY COUNTY, Neb. -- One person has died and two others suffered serious injuries in a Wednesday crash in Sarpy County.
The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle injury crash at the intersection of 144th Street and Harrison. Upon arrival, first responders found the driver and sole occupant of a Mitsubishi Outlander, 37-year-old Candice C. McDowell of Omaha, who was unresponsive and in "extremely critical" condition, according to Sgt. Kyle Percifield.
The driver of the other vehicle, 24-year-old Ulises Pantoja, of Omaha, and a passenger both suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. All three people were taken to a local trauma center for treatment. Upon arrival, McDowell died from her injuries.
Authorities say that evidence obtained at the scene indicates Pantoja was driving in a willfully reckless manner prior to the crash. Additionall, Percifield says, Pantoja was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The case remains under investigation.
