MEAD, Neb. -- The two people who were killed in a fatal crash just north of Mead killed have been identified.

The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office said that two people died from the crash and two others were injured and transported to a nearby hospital. The crash occurred on Highway 77, just north of Mead, around 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

Nebraska authorities identified the two people killed in the crash as 46-year-old Hector Martinez Mezquita of Fremont, and 26-year-old Francisco Alfaro.

The Saunders County Sheriff's Office said Mezquita was driving a car south on the highway and lost control because of ice and snow on the roadway. The car was then hit on its passenger side by a northbound pickup truck.

Mezquita and Alfaro died at the scene. Investigators said a Yutan woman and a child were seriously injured in the crash and taken to an Omaha hospital.
