The Nebraska Athletic Department announced Thursday the hiring of Marquita Armstead as Executive Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. Armstead comes to Nebraska from the University of South Florida, where she served in a similar role. Armstead’s appointment is pending the completion of a University of Nebraska background check.

Armstead has been a member of the South Florida athletics administration since March of 2016. She originally joined USF as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, before being elevated to Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator in August of 2017.

“I am honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to join the Nebraska Athletics, and to continue to build upon the success that has been established there,” Armstead said. “Nebraska’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence is second to none. I would like to thank Trev Alberts, the search committee, and the senior staff members for giving me the chance to join their team. This opportunity will allow me to further my commitment to serve student-athletes, coaches, and staff at the highest level. My family and I are thrilled to be Cornhuskers.”

In her role with the Bulls, Armstead serves as the sport administrator for men’s and women’s basketball, and had previous sport oversight of softball, men’s soccer, women’s tennis and as the secondary sport administrator for football. Armstead also oversees several USF student-athlete support departments, including academic services, student-athlete enhancement, sports medicine, nutrition, sport psychology, student rights and responsibilities and Title IX.

“We are excited to have Marquita Armstead and her family join Nebraska Athletics,” Nebraska Vice Chancellor/Director Athletics Trev Alberts said. “During the search and interview process, it was evident that Marquita cares deeply about student-athletes and their success both personally and athletically. She will bring a calm, confident and competitive demeanor and is a great addition to our staff.”

In her position with the Huskers, Armstead will have sport supervision for men’s basketball and volleyball. She will be a member of the Big Ten Sport Management Council, and has oversight of athletic medicine, sports psychology, the athletic performance lab (NAPL), strength and conditioning, performance nutrition, Title IX and gender equity.

In addition to her work at USF, Armstead has a strong athletic administration background at four other schools. Before her time at South Florida, Armstead worked at Georgia Tech from 2012 to 2016, where she served as Director of Compliance for her final three years in Atlanta. Prior to Georgia Tech, Armstead was the Director of Compliance at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga for six years. She also served internships in compliance at Mississippi State and Ohio University.

Armstead earned her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State in 2005 and earned a master’s of sports administration from the school in 2006. She received a Master of Business Administration degree from Tennessee Chattanooga in 2013 and is a 2012 NCAA Leadership Institute graduate. Armstead is married to Demetric Armstead and the couple has a son, Braylon.

Armstead will begin her appointment at Nebraska on Feb. 1 and will succeed the retiring Pat Logsdon in the position. Logsdon has served Nebraska Athletics for more than four decades, including the last 13 years as Senior Woman Administrator.

“Marquita is highly respected and regarded in the college athletics industry, and is an ultimate professional,” Logsdon said. “She has outstanding leadership skills and has established strong relationships with coaches and student-athletes. I have no doubt she will have a terrific impact on our athletic department.”
