One person dead in two-vehicle west Omaha crash

OMAHA, Neb. -- One person has died in a two-vehicle crash in west Omaha.
Authorities were called to the scene at 153rd and Q just after 10:00 p.m. Thursday. An investigation revealed that a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta was westbound on Q Street when it entered the intersection at 153rd Street. At the same time, a southbound 2009 Chevy Cobalt entered the same intersection.
The Volkswagen struck the Chevy on the driver's side, with the impact causing both vehicles to come to a stop in the eastbound lanes of Q Street.
The driver of the Chevy, 22-year-old Jacob Reynolds, was declared dead at the scene by Omaha Fire. His 21-year-old passenger was taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital with leg fractures.
The 22-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Bergan Mercy for lacerations to his head and legs.
Q Street was closed from Blackwell to 156th Street until 2:30 a.m.
