OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge will be lit in blue and yellow over the weekend in a show of support for Ukraine.

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert announced the tribute Thursday morning on her Facebook page, with too much fanfare from Omaha’s online community.

The post came a day after the mayor posted another photo of the bridge. There was no text accompanying the post, but several people commented noting the bridge was lit in special colors resembling Russia’s flag and urging that the city show its support for Ukraine instead:

“Why not yellow and blue?”

“I would rather see yellow and blue in support of Ukrainians.”

“You should change the colors to the Ukrainian colors!”

The mayor’s post on Thursday went over much better, with many posting emojis of the Ukrainian flag and sunflowers, Ukraine’s official flower:

“Thank you for listening to the myriad of comments on your last posted photo requesting the visual support for Ukraine.”
