Fairbury approves contract for new city administrator

FAIRBURY, NE — A town in southeast Nebraska now knows who its next city administrator will be.
At its latest meeting, the Fairbury City Council unanimously approved the contract for Mayor Spencer Brown's recommendation for the position.
Jacob Matthews, from Denver, will take over the position later this month.
"I think he'll work very well with staff and be a great asset to our team," Brown said.
While they did not get into specifics during the meeting, Brown said the council saw Matthews resumé and were able to ask questions about him before the meeting.
Per the contract the city approved, Matthews' first day will be Wednesday, July 13. He was not at the meeting Tuesday night.
Matthews will take the position from Robert Messbarger, who submitted his resignation after finding a new position in a new town closer to his family. Messbarger's last day will be July 22.
