Creighton fights off pesky St. Thomas

OMAHA, Neb. -- Arthur Kaluma led three Bluejays in double-figures as No. 9 Creighton opened its 2022-23 season with a 72-60 victory over St. Thomas.
The Bluejays trailed 57-56 with 9:58 left before ending the game on a 14-3 run.
Creighton, which led by as much as 15, owned 40-35 at the half.
"Hats off to St. Thomas," Creighton head coach Greg McDermott said after the game. "They came in with a great plan. They really jammed the paint, made us shoot three-point shots."
Aurora native Baylor Scheierman, a recent South Dakota State transfer who tested the NBA draft waters in the offseason, recorded a double-double in his first official outing as a Bluejay. Scheierman notched 11 points and 10 boards in his Creighton debut.
Andrew Rohde paced St. Thomas with 15 points.
Jensen scores 30, No. 21 Creighton women top No. 23 SD State
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Lauren Jensen scored 17 of her 30 points in the fourth quarter and No. 21 Creighton pulled away from No. 23 South Dakota State in the only Top 25 matchup on the opening day of the season.
Ellie Colbeck drilled a 3-pointer for the Jackrabbits to tie the game at 64 with 6:09 to play but after a two-minute scoreless drought Emma Ronsieke made a layup for Creighton and Jensen scored the next seven points for a 73-64 lead heading into the final minute.
Creighton made 10 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter. Myah Selland scored 22 points to lead South Dakota State
