Omaha superintendent announces resignation

OMAHA, Neb. -- On Tuesday, Omaha Public Schools sent out a statement saying their superintendent was leaving after this school year.
The OPS Superintendent Cheryl Logan, Ed.D., announced she will be stepping away from her position at with the school in June 2023.
Logan sent out an email to the OPS community saying, "It has been a joy to serve as your Superintendent."
She went on to say that she was grateful for the school district, and she had notified the Board of Education that this will be her last school year.
"I will step away from my position at the end of June 2023. I am forever grateful for, and honored by, the friendships and partnerships we’ve built together," Logan said in her announcement. "Alas, it is time for me to return home to my family. It is time for me to have tea with my sisters on Saturdays, to watch my nephew play soccer and to spend quality time with my husband and daughter, located close to my native home and both of our families."
Logan started in the superintendent position in 2018, and said there have been so many accomplishments along the way with the school.
"We have accomplished much through our Strategic Plan of Action. We’ve elevated learning through hard work, new materials and expanded programs," she said. "With the support of the voters, we’ve built five new schools on time and on budget and renovated several more. We have positioned the long-term financial health of our school district to ensure we can deliver a quality education for all children. We’ve navigated three school years amid global pandemic disruptions."
She said she looks forward to a strong finish.
The Board of Education released a statement saying, "Superintendent Cheryl Logan, Ed.D., shared that this will be her final school year in our district. We are extremely thankful to have worked with Dr. Logan."
The Board also said that Logan and the school had accomplished much in her time there.
They said they will start a comprehensive search for a new superintendent, and will be keeping the OPS community updated.
